The Annual "Icebreaking Cruise" took place on 2 Janauary 2009 and this year there was ice on the canal for the boat to break. A good trip was had by all to help clear the heads after the New Year celebrations. To those hardy souls who took part, "Well done".

On Saturday 17 January 2009 the Society organised a visit to the Summerlee Heritage Centre, Coatbridge. With guides, the visitors were given a very interesting afternoon visiting the various exhibits. All agreed it was a very good and worthwhile trip and would recommend it to everyone, young and old as there are many "hands on" exhibits for the younger ones to try. Thanks to R. Irvine who supplied the photographs.

As a follow up to the East Dunbartonshire Community Safety Partnership Educational School Trips for East Dunbartonshire Primary Schools, the Society ran a competition to get feedback directly from the children to ascertain what they had gained from the trips. The children were asked to submit a report of their trip and on receipt of all the entries a panel of members adjudged the best entry to be that from Torrance Primay School. The photos above show the presentation of the trophy as well as some book tokens for the use of the class and school.
